As the World Cup Cross-Country racing resumes in Europe, attention shifts to the latest lightweight mountain bike tire prototypes. These new tires, engineered for speed, underscore that upgrading rubber is the most practical and often most affordable way to enhance current bikes. On the Nové Město na Moravě course, notable brands like Maxxis, Michelin, Pirelli, and Schwalbe were spotted showcasing at least five tire prototypes. Dry conditions favored fast tires, leading to successful races on originating gravel treads by various riders, including winner Christopher Blevins.
Michelin's 'Work In Progress' prototype badge covered the biggest departure from their current XC line-up with all-new dry conditions tread patterns.
With dry and hardpack conditions prevailing, the ruling factor in tire choice was 'anything fast', showcasing a shift towards speed in XC racing.
