Iván Romeo of Movistar captured attention after winning a stage in the Critérium du Dauphiné, becoming a surprising race leader. However, Tadej Pogačar highlighted the potential threat of Florian Lipowitz, who has made a name for himself with strong performances this season, including a second-place finish in Paris-Nice. Lipowitz, aware of the immense challenge posed by top competitors such as Pogačar, Jonas Vingegaard, and Remco Evenepoel, aims to seize opportunities elsewhere in the race rather than aiming for the podium.
"With Florian Lipowitz and Eddie Dunbar in the move, you shouldn't give them too much advantage," Pogačar told reporters, emphasizing Lipowitz's emerging significance in the race.
"Last year, there were no expectations, I didn't know I could do so well. But after that, I started putting myself under pressure... because I want to show I'm capable."
"The final podium is fairly predictable... so I have to go for other opportunities," Lipowitz remarked, acknowledging the challenging competition ahead.
Despite uncertain expectations in previous races, Lipowitz is self-aware of the pressures he faces while striving to become a consistent competitor.
