Bike Week brought communities together through cycling, movement, and fun. Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership (SSRP) organized events to make cycling accessible to people of all ages, abilities, and experience levels. On May 14, St. Cecilia's School hosted an inclusive cycling day supported by CoMotion Ltd. Adaptive trikes, tandem bikes, companion cycles, and wheelchair-accessible bikes allowed every child to participate. Some students learned to steer, brake, and navigate safely, while others cycled alongside teachers and coaches. Students showed excitement through laughter, shouts, smiles, and quiet enjoyment, with light rain adding to the adventure. The day reinforced that sport and recreation should be for everyone.
"Bike Week was held recently, bringing communities across the county together through cycling, movement and fun. Each year, Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership (SSRP) organises events that aim to make cycling accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability or experience. For some, cycling is a daily way to travel. For others, it is a hobby shared with friends and family, a peaceful solo spin or the excitement of learning to ride for the very first time."
"On May 14th, St. Cecilia's School was transformed into a vibrant space filled with laughter and excitement. Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership (SSRP) with support from CoMotion Ltd, delivered an inclusive cycling day that brought something truly special to the students and staff of St. Cecilia's School; the opportunity for every child to experience the thrill, independence and simple joy that cycling can bring."
"The school grounds quickly filled with excitement as adaptive trikes, tandem bikes, companion cycles and wheelchair-accessible bikes gave every child the opportunity to take part. Some students pedalled independently, carefully learning how to steer around corners, use brakes and navigate the space around them. Others relaxed beside teachers and coaches as they cycled together, feeling the fresh air and light rain against their faces."
"For the teachers, coaches and staff present, the day was a powerful reminder that sport and recreation should belong to everyone. What may seem like a simple activity to many became something far greate"
