Demi Vollering entered the 2025 Tour de France Femmes as the favourite but faltered during stage 8 at the Col de la Madeleine. Pauline Ferrand-Prévot secured a significant victory after launching an attack 11.7km from the summit alongside Sarah Gigante. Vollering struggled to match the pace set by the attackers, ultimately losing a considerable time gap. Despite initially feeling strong, she expressed disappointment over her inability to respond to the early attack. Her teammate Évita Muzic provided some assistance but the stage ended poorly for Vollering's title aspirations.
"I just feel not really myself. I just miss some power in the legs. My heart and lungs were OK, but my legs were just finished today."
"Actually, I felt good in the beginning, but I didn't have an answer to Sarah Gigante's attack. Normally, I should be able to follow, but I'm very disappointed, of course."
