Egan Bernal showcased an impressive performance during stage 7 of the Giro d'Italia, executing two fierce attacks on the Tagliacozzo climb. His results mark a significant comeback since a life-threatening crash three years ago. Although Bernal finished third, his performance was one of his best in the mountains since winning the Giro in 2021. He expressed pride in wearing his redesigned national champion's jersey, symbolizing Colombian cycling's legacy, and felt a strong potential for victory despite falling short by a small margin.
"Maybe this jersey gave me wings," Bernal said. "And I certainly feel very satisfied and proud with this result."
"At a certain point I really felt I could fight for it, there was just a little bit missing," he said. "If I'd got 10 metres more, it could have been a different outcome."
