'Matteo and I were kind of stuck together' - Tim Wellens explains how unspoken Visma-UAE tension extended into Tour de France stage 20 breakaway with Matteo Jorgenson
Briefly

In the stage 20 of Tour de France, Tim Wellens and Matteo Jorgenson found themselves in a breakaway but ultimately hindered each other’s performance. The challenging conditions and close competition led to their mutual exhaustion. After Jorgenson's attack, both riders struggled to keep pace with the break. With a crucial gap forming, any hopes of victory diminished. Wellens acknowledged that they were tightly matched in strengths yet ended up canceling each other out in their pursuits, finishing eighth and ninth.

They caught us, and then when the final began, I felt we were pretty tired.
