Lidl is acquiring a majority stake in the WorldTour team Lidl-Trek to enhance its growth and competitive edge. This partnership includes restructuring ownership with Trek retaining a significant stake. Lidl and Trek aim to become a leading team in international road cycling. The deal is pending regulatory approvals and aims to attract top riders and staff. With additional funding, Lidl-Trek plans to rival other significant teams in cycling. Investments include creating a Performance Center for athlete health and analytics to boost performance outcomes.
The new deal between Lidl and Trek is expected to be completed in the next few weeks, subject to the approval of all relevant authorities.
With more funding, Lidl-Trek are hoping to rival the other 'super teams' in cycling, who boast the biggest nuggets - notably UAE Team Emirates-XRG, Visma-Lease a Bike, Ineos Grenadiers and Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe.
A state-of-the-art Performance Center is among the things earmarked for the new investment, focused on athlete health, recovery and performance analysis.
For us, Lidl-Trek represents a powerful platform to reach the pinnacle of international men's and women's road cycling.
