Demi Vollering enters the Tour de France Femmes 2023 as the primary contender after previously finishing second, just four seconds behind Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney. Last year's competition ended dramatically after Vollering crashed, losing her lead during stage 5. She now rides for FDJ-Suez, aiming to avoid past pitfalls amid challenging opening stages in Brittany. Vollering expressed awareness of the race's inherent dangers, emphasizing the need for vigilance despite the stages not being overly tricky. She remains optimistic for a competitive performance without dwelling on her previous misfortunes.
I think there's always danger involved, even if a stage is not super tricky. Last year, the stage was not super tricky, but I still crashed in a shit place, so you always need to keep your eyes open.
I think the first two stages can be really exciting, but as soon as you don't have to look then, of course, it's not so nice. But I think they're two really exciting stages as well, a bit like the Ardennes.
