From a Broken Tour to the Struggle Bus: My Palo Duro Canyon Prep Ride for Hotter'N Hell
Briefly

A challenging 50-mile ride was undertaken in Palo Duro Canyon to prepare for the Hotter'N Hell 100. Despite extensive prior cycling experience, extreme heat turned the final miles into a struggle. The ride followed a disrupted tour plan due to an accident, leading to a focus on single-day events. Palo Duro Canyon presents a brutal course with steep climbs, making it ideal for testing physical limits. The objective is to strengthen the cyclist's skills ahead of future hilly races, specifically the Day of the Tread in Albuquerque.
The ride started at 8:00 AM, and the first 25 miles were manageable, but the final six miles proved to be a challenge, with extreme heat leading to difficulty in staying upright.
Having ridden over 6,000 miles in the last year provided the necessary base for tackling the tough terrain in Palo Duro Canyon, though it still proved humbling.
