The UCI disqualified four WorldTour teams and one ProTeam from the Tour de Romandie Féminin due to a disagreement over the implementation of GPS safety trackers for bike racing. The teams excluded include Lidl-Trek, Visma-Lease a Bike, Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto, EF Education-Oatly, and Picnic-PostNL, resulting in 30 riders being unable to participate. This decision followed concerns for rider safety after a fatal incident at the previous year's World Championships. The race continued with only 60 remaining riders despite the disqualification.
The decision of these teams to oppose the specific rules for the event is surprising and undermines the cycling family's efforts to ensure the safety of all riders in road cycling by developing this new technology.
The UCI wanted to trial a new safety system with GPS for riders’ bikes at the three-day Swiss WorldTour event, designed to increase safety in the peloton.
