Life Time Unbound Gravel has unveiled course details for its 2023 event set for May 30-31 in Emporia, Kansas. The sought-after 200-mile course remains unchanged from last year, maintaining its challenging terrain of 202.9 miles and 11,850 feet of elevation gain. Features including barriers for elite finishers will return, and organizers addressed concerns about potential mixing of participant routes by ensuring coordinated timings. Sean Thurman, race director, reassured that measures in place aim to provide a safe and competitive environment for all racers, while echoing the success of previous iterations.
“We didn’t change anything, everything worked. It’s the same,” Sean Thurman, race director for Unbound Gravel, told Cyclingnews.
“The way we have it laid out, with time, should have the last 100-miler through by 11:30 [a.m. local time], and then we expect the first leaders of the men’s elite on the 2000 to come through that same section about 11:45 or Noon.”
