British Road National Championships: xx wins elite men's road race
Briefly

Sam Watson from Ineos Grenadiers claimed his first elite men's road race victory at the British road championships held in Aberystwyth. After finishing second to Mark Cavendish last year, Watson took control of the race during the fifth and final lap of the 187km course, accelerating away from the lead group. He finished with a comfortable 29 seconds lead over the chase group. Matthew Brennan from Visma-Lease a Bike secured the U23 title and took second place, while defending champion Ethan Hayter finished fourth.
Watson launched a massive seated acceleration from the lead group as the fifth and final lap of the 187km race began, securing his victory.
Despite Israel-Premier Tech's three riders in the chase, they struggled to organize effectively against Watson's strong solo performance.
