The 2025 Road World Championships will be the first ever held in Africa, taking place in Rwanda from September 21-28, 2025. The elite men's race will feature an arduous 267.5km route that includes a daunting 5,475 metres of climbing. Kigali, situated at 1850 metres elevation, poses additional challenges for cyclists. The event will also uniquely include an under-23 women's road race separate from the elite women's race. UCI President David Lappartient expressed excitement for bringing this prestigious global event to Rwanda and highlighting its rich cycling culture.
"The high altitude and the climbs will challenge the riders to push their limits. A place in the history books is at stake," organizers said.
"Bringing the World Cycling Championships to the African continent has been my vision for many years," UCI President David Lappartient said.
"Kigali and the entire country have a rich cycling culture, which will now be shared with the world. I can't wait to welcome the racers to our beautiful land," he expressed.
"The races will be held in Rwanda's capital Kigali between September 21-28, 2025, marking a historic first for Africa in hosting this prestigious event."
