In a pioneering initiative, Munich residents will have the opportunity to actively participate in shaping the city's future by submitting proposals for funding from a €1 million budget for the year 2025. This participatory budgeting approach, inspired by similar efforts in Paris and Barcelona, seeks to empower locals, including non-residents, to suggest and vote on community projects that improve public spaces and social equity. Proposed ideas must meet specific criteria and will undergo feasibility checks, culminating in a democratic selection of projects for funding starting from mid-June 2023.
"Think about what the city is missing, share your idea, and maybe your project will become reality," said Mayor Dieter Reiter.
The goal is to give residents - including foreigners - a voice in shaping their city.
Proposals must cost no more than €100,000 each, benefit the entire city, and be sustainable and socially fair.
Ideas can be submitted online or by post up to June 9th.
