"Greg has been perhaps my biggest supporter of this project since it started. Greg commissioned the first batch of duos. A while back, he asked me how close I was to getting the first half of them done because I'd always talked about doing two volumes, a book one and book two of the forty-four duos, the way Bartók has them in two volumes."
"The first ones we commissioned in 2018, and I know that because my daughter Nina was born in 2018. And I think we commissioned five at the beginning. And when you showed up at my house, there was a sixth, which was your gift to Nina, to our family."
On April 20, 45th Parallel Universe will premiere eight new violin duos by Kenji Bunch, inspired by Bartók's work. These duos blend American folk music, bluegrass, and jazz. Greg Ewer, founder of 45th Parallel Universe, commissioned these pieces and will perform them with fellow violinists. The concert will also feature Bartók's duos and Telemann's Concerto no. 1 in G Major. Bunch expresses gratitude for Ewer's support in completing the duos, which are part of a larger project inspired by Bartók's two-volume structure.
