The concert program led by Conductor Jory Fankuchen showcases a blend of historical and contemporary compositions. It opens with Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, evoking the sea's mystique. Nathaniel Heyder's "Phases of Ruin," a world premiere commissioned by SFCO, highlights the support for emerging composers. Finally, the performance features Pearl de la Motte, an exceptional young violist and winner of the Klein Competition, who will interpret Bartók's compelling Viola Concerto. This program illustrates the SFCOâs commitment to fostering new talent and honoring classical masterpieces.
Our program begins with the mysterious sounds of the sea at Fingal's Cave. Mendelssohn's incomparable Hebrides Overture, written at the tender age of 21, has captured the imagination of its listeners since the day it was conceived.
Following, in our ongoing collaboration with the Emerging Black Composer's Project, supported by the NEA, we present the work of another talented young composer, Nathaniel Heyder's "Phases of Ruin," a world premiere for chamber orchestra.
And in a new collaboration with the Irving Klein International String Competition, we are thrilled to present our final "Rising Star" of the program, viola virtuoso, Pearl de la Motte.
Pearl will perform Bartok's haunting and dynamic Viola Concerto, showcasing the depth and beauty of the viola as she takes the stage as a Klein Competition winner.
