dark skies sonic pavilion suspends sound system over crowd at horst arts & music festival
Briefly

The Dark Skies sound installation at the Horst Arts & Music Festival was created by Leopold Banchini and Giona Bierens de Haan in collaboration with DJ DVS1. This immersive sound system, featuring 116 top speakers and 58 subwoofers suspended above the audience, transforms the environment into a collective dance floor. Built with recycled materials and assembled by volunteers, it emphasizes acoustic immersion and spatial equality, allowing participants to share in the experience without a focus on individual performers.
The installation creates a dense, intimate atmosphere where sound leads the experience, transforming the space into a collective, 'democratic' dance floor.
It emphasizes collaborative construction processes and the reuse of available materials, showcasing how the collective effort resulted in a large-scale sound system.
