Rubberband recently performed at the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts, showcasing Vic's Mix, which features works by Victor Quijada from 2002 to 2014. The performance included a new, diverse cast and celebrated the company's evolution since its founding in 2002. Quijada, who is inspired by hip-hop and classical dance, returned to dancing in 2020. The performance highlighted his journey and artistic vision, alongside an engaging post-show discussion, illustrating the fusion of cultural influences in contemporary dance.
When I first came into contact with hip hop ... it was a very empowering time and moment,... at the age of 26 after my classical training, I felt compelled to reach back and connect to that part of me I left behind in Los Angeles.
Act I, Quijada explained, was a collection of trials and tests, created between 2002 and 2005, when he first began combining urban and classical dance styles.
