Berlin man hoards massive firework stash in basement DW 12/29/2025
"Police have seized 330 kilograms (about 730 pounds) of fireworks from a man's basement on Berlin's Landsberger Allee after he bragged about the stash at a Christmas party. According to a Facebook post by police, the man told guests he kept large quantities of fireworks in his basement and occasionally sold some of them. One guest alerted authorities. With approval from prosecutors, officers searched the apartment and cleared out the basement in a raid that took place on the man's birthday."
""This birthday party was a 'blast'," Berlin police said in the Facebook post. In the statement, police urged residents to look at the safety advice for New Year's Eve in a broschure provided by the BAM research institute. Police said none of the fireworks appeared to be illegal, but the quantity stored in a residential building violated safety rules. Police said storage limits are set out in the second ordinance to the Explosives Act."

Fireworks sales are legally limited to December 29–31 in Germany amid growing calls for a ban.
