"Over the years, Molson Coors has sold everything from CBD products to vegan milk. Today, we're shining the spotlight on one glowing member of the brand's light beer category: Hamm's Special Light. What's wrong with a pale lager with a pleasant mouthfeel, refreshing crispness, and flavorful malty grain? Nothing. Regardless, Hamm's Special Light hasn't been seen on store shelves since 2021."
"On the palate, Hamm's Special Light arrived with malty, grain-forward tasting notes of corn, light grass, white bread, and a faintly bitter hoppy aftertaste. It featured a structurally light body, light gold hue, and an overall (as its name suggests) "lighter" version of the profile fans might expect from classic Hamm's - which comprises a fairly nondescript combination of water, barley, malt, corn syrup (maltose), yeast, and hops."
Hamm's Special Light was a pale, low-calorie American light lager with malty, corn-forward flavors, light gold color, and a faint bitter hop aftertaste. The beer delivered a structurally light body and a crisp, refreshing mouthfeel compared with classic Hamm's, and offered about 110 calories per 12-fluid-ounce can versus 142 calories for the original. The Hamm's brand traces to an 1856 German brewing tradition founded by Theodore Hamm and remained especially popular in the Midwest, dominating St. Paul, Minnesota, from the early 1980s through 2021. Hamm's signage still appears in neighborhood bars and the beer shows up in pop culture references such as the film High Fidelity. Molson Coors marketed Hamm's alongside varied experimental products, yet Special Light’s retail availability dwindled and it ceased appearing on shelves after 2021.
