Slow and Steady Wins You Decades of Success: Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Turns 45
""On weekends, there was often a boiling batch of beer in their house, and carboys lining their hallway bubbling away," Grossman recalls."
""I was exposed to that around eight or nine years old, and those sights and smells were deeply imprinted.""
Ken Grossman began homebrewing in 1969 after observing a friend's family's brewing activities and kept the hobby secret from his mother. He moved to Chico, California at 17, embraced the outdoors, and expanded brewing with friends. Grossman opened a homebrewing shop in 1976 and transitioned to professional brewing after homebrewing became legal in 1978. He studied chemistry, connected with early craft brewer Jack McAuliffe, and assembled brewing tanks locally to build a brewhouse. Sierra Nevada evolved from those homebrewing roots into a pioneering, resilient craft brewery that reached its 45th year of operation.
