How to drink this year's Pliny the Younger, released March 20
"While Pliny the Younger's base recipe remains fairly consistent, the hop bill can vary from year to year. Although the newest brew features the same hop varieties as last year - Simcoe, Amarillo, Tangier, Citra, Mosaic, Nectaron and Warrior - the proportions vary. For Younger 2026, a whopping 9 pounds of hops were used to produce each barrel of beer, including 6 pounds in the brew kettle and 3 pounds during the triple dry-hop process."
"The resulting beer exudes bright citrus aromas of orange and grapefruit, with notes of candied tangerine, stone fruit and resinous green pine that lead to a clean, bitter finish. At 10.25% ABV, the beer remains remarkably balanced and ultra-drinkable, a testament to head brewer Vinnie Cilurzo's talents."
"Both brewpubs will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily from March 20 through April 2. Younger will be available each day until the brewpub runs out of that day's allocation. Customers can expect long wait times of up to six hours or more, with lines starting to form around 5-6 a.m."
Pliny the Younger, a renowned triple IPA from Russian River Brewing Co., will be released for its 22nd consecutive year from March 20 through April 2 at the brewery's Santa Rosa and Windsor taprooms. While the base recipe remains consistent, this year's version uses the same seven hop varieties as last year—Simcoe, Amarillo, Tangier, Citra, Mosaic, Nectaron, and Warrior—but in different proportions. The 2026 edition features 9 pounds of hops per barrel, with 6 pounds added during brewing and 3 pounds during triple dry-hopping. The resulting beer delivers bright citrus aromas of orange and grapefruit with notes of candied tangerine, stone fruit, and resinous green pine, finishing clean and bitter at 10.25% ABV. Both locations operate daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with customers typically experiencing wait times of six hours or more.
