Bayern Munich defeated VfB Stuttgart 3-0 in the DFB-Pokal in Berlin under foggy conditions. Heavy pyro usage from both fan groups disrupted the match and reduced visibility for spectators and viewers. Bayern supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß criticized the behavior as outrageous and said it ruined the game, citing problems seeing on TV and with his own eyes during parts of the second half. The DFB launched an investigation into pyro displays and protests by both clubs. The DFB said it welcomes vibrant fan culture but that fan actions must not lead to game interruptions or cancellations. Both clubs face potential severe penalties.
"“The game was of course great, the result was great, but what the spectators, on both sides, did was outrageous. They completely ruined the game. My wife told me they couldn't see anything on TV for a long time. I also have problems with my eyes; I couldn't see anything at all in parts of the second half. And if the spectators think that's their way of celebrating, then I'm out. The clubs, the DFB and the politicians must take firm action so that such outrageous behavior doesn't happen again,” Hoeneß said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia)."
"The DFB has launched an investigation into last night's pyro displays and protests by Bayern and Stuttgart fans, as confirmed by the association to the @dpa. Both clubs are facing potential severe penalties. “We welcome a vibrant fan culture. However, that must not lead to the stands deciding on game interruptions or even game cancellations,” states the DFB."
