Oft-injured Bayern Munich super talent Javier Fernandez discusses getting debut from Miroslav Klose
"Javier Fernández has been so unlucky with injuries in recent years. He impressed enough in the senior team's 2024 pre-season that head coach Vincent Kompany decided to bring him along for the trip to South Korea as well. Upon his return from the trip, however, he almost immediately got injured. That injury and a nearly immediate second injury upon Fernández's return saw the teenager miss around 18 months of football between the summer of 2024 and the final months of 2025."
"Nürnberg head coach Miroslav Klose has been very hesitant to use the team's #20, however, keeping Fernández on the bench for over 2 months before finally giving him his debut in the starting XI in a 1-1 draw with Arminia Bielefeld. Klose spoke of his relief that Fernández could back up his training performances with performances on the pitch and has subsequently started the 19-year-old in the next two matches."
""I've often thought about how it will feel to make such a starting lineup debut for the club," he said, as captured by @iMiaSanMia_GER. "Since I came to Nuremberg, this has been my big goal. That's why I really enjoyed it.""
""I'm just happy to be able to be a player for FCN here. I have to show that then. It's not acted either, but I really like the people and the club.""
Javier Fernández, a Bayern Munich loanee, suffered repeated injuries after impressing during the 2024 pre-season, missing about 18 months of football between mid-2024 and late 2025.
