Arjen Robben won 12 league titles across four top flights, one Champions League, and earned 96 caps over 14 years for his country. He retired from football in July 2021 after a final spell at Groningen. Robben has turned professional in padel and entered the International Padel Federation circuit. He won his first FIP ranking points at the FIP Bronze Westerbork tournament in the Netherlands. Partnered with Werner Lootsma, he recovered from six match points to beat Ralph Boekema and Mark Weldmate 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 to reach the main draw. Robben and Lootsma then lost in the last-32 6-1, 6-0 to world No 155 Sten Richters and No 144 Thijs Roper. A large crowd attended, opponents praised his presence, and Robben said he started with low expectations but tried to fight and score as many points as possible while combining coaching with his padel career.
