Lukas Podolski, a 40-year-old 2014 World Cup winner, continues to play as an outfield player for hometown club Górnik Zabrze since 2021. He also runs several businesses including ice cream parlours, kebab shops, a fashion label and a football hall, and organises large festivals. Podolski previously played for FC Bayern (106 competitive games), Arsenal, Köln, Galatasaray and Inter Milan. He takes pride in career longevity alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and says mental strength and love of football keep him playing. His contract expires in summer; he plans this as his last season but keeps the option to continue. Zabrze lead the Polish league and could enter Champions League qualifiers, and Podolski seeks to help the club on and off the pitch.
