Lord Mayor of Munich shockingly resigns effective immediately from his positions at Bayern Munich
"Munich mayor Dieter Reiter has resigned from his positions at FC Bayern with immediate effect, shortly before the mayoral election. Reiter came under fire for his job on the supervisory board of FC Bayern. The problem: He withheld information about his secondary employment from the city council and failed to obtain its approval. Therefore he has decided to resign and donate his payments to social projects."
"The trust of the people of Munich is the most important thing to me. I've informed FC Bayern that I am resigning from both my supervisory board position and my position as chairman of the administrative advisory board with immediate effect."
Dieter Reiter, Munich's Lord Mayor and Bayern Munich advisory board chairman since February, resigned from both positions with immediate effect. Reiter had served on Bayern's advisory board since 2017 and was recently promoted to chairman following Edmund Stoiber's departure. His resignation came amid controversy over failing to disclose his Bayern employment to the city council and obtain required approval. The timing coincided with declining poll numbers ahead of Munich's mayoral election, where Reiter's support dropped to 35.6%, forcing a runoff against Green party candidate Dominik Krause. Reiter stated that public trust was paramount and committed to donating his Bayern payments to social projects.
