Germany great Popp to join Dortmund - Soccer News
"My heart beats for this club. I'm slowly approaching the end of my career and need to listen to my body. I didn't want to miss the opportunity to play in a BVB shirt. It's very exciting for me to be able to help shape the club's future, building on the success it has enjoyed so far."
"Signing Alex is a major statement of our ambitions. The fact that a player of her calibre has consciously chosen BVB makes us incredibly proud and sends a strong signal about the importance and future of women's football at Dortmund."
Alexandra Popp, former Germany captain and three-time Women's Footballer of the Year, has signed with Borussia Dortmund on a three-year deal starting in the 2026-27 season. The move ends her 14-year tenure at Wolfsburg, where she made 332 Frauen-Bundesliga appearances, scored 158 goals, and won seven league titles plus two Champions League trophies. Popp, who retired from international football in 2024, remains one of five players scoring double figures in the German top-flight this season. She joins Dortmund's Regionalliga West team, with her signing representing a significant statement of the club's ambitions for women's football development.
