Bayern Munich becomes first ever German club to record men's and women's doubles in same season

Bayern Munich’s men and women both won domestic doubles in the same season. The women won the DFB-Pokal against VfL Wolfsburg 4-0, then completed a third consecutive unbeaten Bundesliga season. The men secured the Bundesliga title first, then won the DFB-Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart 3-0 in Berlin, with Harry Kane scoring a hat trick. Bayern became the first club in its history and in Bundesliga history to win domestic doubles in both men’s and women’s competitions in the same season. Both teams also won their German Supercups against the same opponents from their Pokal finals. Both reached the Champions League semifinals, with the women losing narrowly to Barcelona and the men facing a final opponent to be determined.

"The women's team kicked things off first by winning the DFB-Pokal against VfL Wolfsburg with a commanding 4-0 victory, before polishing off their third invincible Bundesliga season a few days later. Meanwhile, the men's team had to wait a week until their own Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart, long after thei had secured the Bundesliga title. They made no mistake and sealed the win with a 3-0 victory in Berlin, courtesy of a hat trick from Harry Kane."

"The respective results mean that Bayern won domestic doubles in the men's and women's department in the same season for the first time not only in club history, but also in Bundesliga history. This feat is quite rare in other European top leagues as well, with only Olympique Lyon/Lyonnes and FC Barcelona having achieved it other than Bayern."

"The Bayern men and women also mirrored each other in their other competitions, both winning the German Supercup, quite coincidentally against their Pokal final opponents. The men won the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Stuttgart, while the women won the DFB-Supercup against Wolfsburg. Not only that, but both teams also reached the Champions League semifinals, with the women narrowly losing out to eventual winners Barcelona."

"Regardless of their Champions League exits, though, both the Bayern Männer and Frauen had excellent seasons, and deserve all the praise they can get. The two sides will now break for a short while until their respective national team call-ups, with the men gearing up for the World Cup."
