Major European city with thriving LGBTQ+ scene bids for WorldPride 2030
Briefly

Barcelona is making a strong bid to host WorldPride 2030, backed by a coalition of 39 LGBTQ+ organizations and the Catalonian government, emphasizing the city's prominent LGBTQ+ scene. The proposal was recently showcased at the Spanish Cultural Center in Washington DC during WorldPride DC. Maria Giralt, a representative of Pride Barcelona, stressed the importance of global connections and advocacy against rising right-wing movements, stating that the bid represents a significant moment for LGBTQ+ rights. The city is recognized for its inclusivity, appearing on Expedia's list of top LGBTQ+-friendly destinations.
Giralt told the Washington Blade that 39 LGBTQ+ groups in Barcelona and beyond were supporting the bid, with the Catalonian government and Spain's Tourism Institute also behind the proposal.
This approval is very important, especially at this time when there is a wave, a drift, toward the extreme right. The resistance must continue.
