Lamine Yamal in Spain squad but no Real players
Spain has named an 18-year-old Lamine Yamal in its World Cup squad, with no Real Madrid players included for the first time. Yamal missed the final month of the season after tearing his left hamstring on 22 April while playing for Barcelona. Nico Williams also features after struggling with a hamstring problem. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said the team is relaxed and expects everyone available from the first match if no setbacks occur. Dean Huijsen and Dani Carvajal were left out. Spain’s group matches are against Cape Verde on 15 June, Saudi Arabia on 21 June, and Uruguay on 26 June. Mikel Merino returned after a four-month foot stress fracture and was included, alongside several Premier League players. Uncapped defenders Eric Garcia and Marc Pubill were called up, while Fermin Lopez was ruled out with a broken foot.
""Excitement is the key word. Passion," said De la Fuente. "The reaction of people all over Spain - adults and children alike - is that they are fully behind the national team." Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez was last week ruled out of the tournament with a broken foot."
