Barcelona's Deco: No pressure to sign Rashford
"There's no penalty clause in the loan agreement if we don't sign him,"
"We do have an option to make it permanent if we want to. It's too early to talk about decisions for next season; what matters is that we're happy with him."
"He's a high-level player. He burst on to the scene at a very young age; then he had some great seasons at United; then some more complicated years with changes of coaches; and perhaps it was also difficult for him because a lot was demanded of him there. "But we're happy with him, that's the most important thing. These decisions [signing him permanently] aren't for now, now it's time to focus on the upcoming games. A decision will be made, but we're not talking about that now.""
Barcelona hold an option to sign Marcus Rashford for around €30 million at the end of the season without incurring any penalty if they decline. Manchester United previously included penalty clauses in other loans, with Chelsea paying £5m after returning Jadon Sancho. Rashford has scored two goals and provided four assists in his first eight appearances for Barcelona. Injuries to Lamine Yamal and Raphinha have increased his playing time while he adapts to a new league. Club officials describe him as delivering at a high level and say decisions on permanence will be made later.
