
Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Department of Planning and Development announced 11 Neighborhood Opportunity Fund grant awardees totaling more than $2.1 million, with individual awards ranging from $60,000 to $250,000. The grants are part of $5.5 million in total project investment across Austin, West Englewood, West Garfield Park, Humboldt Park, North Lawndale, South Lawndale, and South Shore. Austin will receive three projects along W. Chicago Avenue, including a $250,000 karaoke venue buildout, a $60,000 ice cream shop buildout, and a $187,500 community theater venue buildout. North Lawndale will receive a $250,000 award for a clinic and pharmacy buildout. South Lawndale will fund a beverage store expansion and an art gallery and performance space buildout.

Next door, Shawn Michelle's Homemade Ice Cream at 5246 W. Chicago Ave. landed $60,000 for its buildout. The Community Theater/The Joseph's Place at 5912 W. Chicago Ave. received $187,500 for a theater venue."
"North Lawndale's Lawndale Christian Health Center at 3401 W. Roosevelt Road received the top award amount ($250,000) toward a clinic and pharmacy buildout - a project with a total cost of more than $2.6 million, by far the largest individual project in this round."
