The Austin Monitor stopped publishing in October 2025 and transitioned operations into a new nonprofit newsroom called the Austin Current, powered by the Texas Tribune. The Monitor archive remains searchable and available to anyone. The Austin Current is led by editor-in-chief Melissa Barragán Taboada and former Austin Monitor CEO Joel Gross, with longtime Monitor editor Liz Pagano serving as newsroom editor.
