Matt Ryan Non-Committal On Michael Penix Jr.'s Status As Falcons' QB1; Latest On Penix's ACL Recovery
"Neither of us are the head coach of the football team, so we can't answer your question on that,"
"I think as we start to get into this process and dive deeper into the roster - how it currently stands, where it's going in the future - I think those are conversations that'll be a part of it."
The Falcons installed a new decision-making group: president of football Matt Ryan, general manager Ian Cunningham, and head coach Kevin Stefanski. A top priority for the trio is establishing a short- and long-term quarterback plan. Ryan declined to commit on whether the team will revert to the prior starter once he recovers from a partially-torn ACL, deferring such decisions to the process. The club signed Kirk Cousins in free agency and drafted Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8; Penix struggled in his second year and suffered a season-ending ACL, allowing Cousins to reclaim the starting job. In ten appearances, Cousins completed 61 percent of passes for 1,721 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.
