An active shooter situation was reported at Emory University in Atlanta, triggering a response from the Atlanta police. Students and others on the campus were advised to shelter in place. The alert included directions to RUN, HIDE, FIGHT while avoiding the area. Staff members at a nearby deli, General Muir, secured their location after hearing multiple gunshots described as resembling fireworks. The police have not confirmed whether any injuries were sustained during the incident.
Brandy Giraldo, General Muir's chief operating officer, said staffers inside heard a string of gunshots. It sounded like fireworks going off, one right after the other.
The university warned students and others on the campus to shelter in place and said to RUN, HIDE, FIGHT and avoid the area.
Atlanta police did not immediately say whether anyone was injured in the shooting, but were responding to reports of an active shooter.
