Inside the Tampa Tarpons' May resurgence
Briefly

The Tampa Tarpons have struggled significantly since the departure of key prospects Jasson Domínguez and Anthony Volpe. Their performance has consistently declined over recent seasons, finishing 2024 at 54-74 and struggling early in 2025 with a record of 9-16. A noteworthy issue has been their offense, which dropped to an average of 3.8 runs per game early in the season. However, starting May 3, the team demonstrated a turnaround by scoring 24 runs in two games, followed by strong offensive performances against Daytona and Palm Beach, signaling potential for improvement.
Through the first 25 games of 2025, the Tarpons were only scoring 3.8 runs per game, which is a significant decline from last year’s average of 4.89.
Despite their early struggles, the pitching staff managed an above-average 4.14 team ERA, thanks to strong performances from Griffin Herring and several undrafted free agents.
