Brycen Mautz is expected to be called up for his MLB debut on Sunday and will enter the Cardinals’ rotation after a Saturday doubleheader. The Cardinals also promoted Bryan Torres on Friday, with Torres starting both games of the twin bill and recording three hits across them. Mautz posted a sub-3.00 ERA in nine Triple-A starts, striking out more than a batter per inning, while carrying a career-worst 13.5% walk rate. He was selected in the second round of the 2022 draft and improved in 2025 with a 2.98 ERA, a 28.6% strikeout rate, and a minor league pitcher of the year honor. The rotation has remained healthy, with Michael McGreevy performing well and other starters providing innings.
"This could be a brief stint for Mautz, as the Cardinals don't have a clear hole in the rotation. The group has remained healthy and generally provided decent results. Veterans , Matthew Liberatore, and Andre Pallante haven't excelled on a per-inning basis, but they're offering length each time they take the ball. Michael McGreevy is off to a strong start. 's transition to the rotation has gone reasonably well."
