Atlanta Braves 2025 Prospect Reviews: Mason Guerra
"The Braves took Mason Guerra in the 14th round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Oregon State. He had previously been in the mix for a potential first round pick as a middle infielder in his high school days, but he came into the pros as a first baseman whose bat hadn't developed as much as some had hoped initially."
"Guerra started the year slow, posting a .620 OPS in the month of April for Augusta. However the work he put in with the coaching staff started to translate into production in May, as he posted a 1.047 OPS for the month and a .770 OPS in June. He also saw his strikeout rate of 27.8% in April drop slightly to 26.1%."
"After his promotion he really struggled to find his footing in High-A. He was never able to consistently hit, or hit for any kind of power there. Also across both levels the strikeout rate was simply too high, especially for a guy who isn't hitting for considerable power."
Mason Guerra was a 14th-round pick in 2024 who entered pro ball as a first baseman after earlier high-school scouting as a middle infielder. Low expectations followed due to large strikeout totals and a poor 24-game Augusta sample with a .426 OPS. In 2025 he combined to slash .207/.321/.349 with 12 homers, 53 walks and 100 strikeouts across Augusta and Rome, highlighted by a strong May–June surge in Augusta. He failed to adjust consistently after promotion to High-A, showing limited contact and power. He is likely to begin 2026 in Rome and must repeat his improvement to earn a Double-A promotion.
