Alex Anthopoulos: "We're very open" to adding at positions of need
"He's such a great fit for us and he wanted to be here. I don't want to speak for him but I think his goal and his first choice was to be back in Atlanta. We're glad that we were able to get it done and he's just a great fit for us."
"We wanted to get him signed back. It's a conversation we had as a front office back in July. I think I mentioned at the trade deadline that our offseason started at that time. That was one of the discussions we had of, you know, 'Do we want to bring this guy back? What are the alternatives?' and so on..."
The Braves re-signed Raisel Iglesias to a one-year contract to address the closer role. The team prioritized returning a familiar reliever who fits the clubhouse, has the necessary health, makeup and ability, and reportedly wanted to be back in Atlanta. Front office conversations about bringing Iglesias back began in July and continued through the trade deadline as offseason planning started. The club considered alternatives but targeted Iglesias as a priority who was prepared to sign a short-term deal. Despite a rough start to the season, underlying indicators pointed to continued reliability as a late-inning pitcher.
