"We started hearing more and more from people that were using the site as a de facto archive of recent art history,"
"We created Contemporary Art Library to answer this apparent need for a trustworthy, high-quality resource for learning about the work of today's artists."
"we began collecting material from spaces which had closed down in order to prevent as many corners of art history from disappearing as we can,"
Jay Gorney Modern Art operated in New York for nearly fifteen years and presented landmark exhibitions by Lari Pittman, Nan Goldin, Barbara Bloom, Catherine Opie, Eadweard Muybridge, Michael Snow, and Haim Steinbach. Independent and Contemporary Art Library partnered to form the New York Gallery History Project and launched the Jay Gorney Modern Art archives online for the first time. Contemporary Art Library developed a dedicated archival platform to serve as a reliable resource on contemporary artists and began rescuing materials from closed spaces to prevent loss of art-historical records. The platform already includes archives from Foxy Production, Off Vendome, Paradise Garage, Cleopatra's, Matthew, and New Jerseyy.
