Woodland Creatures Waken from Branches and Twigs in Rodolfo Liprandi's Sculptures
"One of the aspects that most fascinated me was realizing how nature already provides ready and extremely evocative forms. A branch, a trunk, or a tangle of shrubs can spontaneously suggest figures, presences, animals, or movements."
"symbiotic dialogue with the environment, free from logistical and financial constraints, where the creative process becomes central."
"What interests me is not so much the permanence of the object, but rather the process and lifecycle of the work: taking from nature, creating, and finally allowing nature to reclaim the creation."
Rodolfo Liprandi grew up in northeastern Italy near the Slovenia border, deeply influenced by diverse ecologies and organic forms. He perceives branches, trunks, and tangles of shrubs as suggestive shapes that evoke figures and movements. Based in Warsaw, he constructs dynamic sculptures from trimmed branches within forests and landscapes, often resembling woodland mammals or fantastical beings. He describes his practice as a symbiotic dialogue with the environment and uses locally sourced materials to minimize impact. The works are ephemeral installations intended to weather and decay, emphasizing process and lifecycle over permanence. His first animal sculpture, a wild boar along the Soča (Isonzo) River, remains a foundational totem.
