What's on now at San Francisco museums, February 2026
"It's a difficult time for many of the city's museums and cultural centers. This week, the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts suspended operations. City Hall promises action, but in the meantime, it's a significant loss of children's programming, exhibits, and events. You can donate here. SOMArts is one of the cultural centers that, like the Mission Cultural Center, is funded in large part by the Arts Commission."
"SFMOMA and MoAD are collaborating on a joint event on the evening of Feb. 5. "Building Universes" two exhibitions and two ways to imagine the world. The free event asks participants to move between the museums to experience Suzanne Jackson: What Is Love at SFMOMA and UNBOUND: Art, Blackness & the Universe at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) . It sounds like an excellent event and you can register here."
Several San Francisco cultural centers face operational and funding challenges, with the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts suspending operations and losing children's programming, exhibits, and events. SOMArts receives significant support from the Arts Commission and also operates on a small budget, relying on individual donations to remain open and free. Current exhibitions include Cece Carpio's "Tabi Tabi Po: Come Out with the Spirits!" through March 29. SFMOMA and the Museum of the African Diaspora will co-host "Building Universes" on Feb. 5, linking Suzanne Jackson: What Is Love and UNBOUND. The museum named SECA award finalists; winners will be announced in April.
