Thousands of businesses and organisations across the United States will close on Friday 30 January in protest of violent actions by federal immigration enforcement agents in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Chicago and other cities. Hundreds of commercial galleries and many non-profit arts spaces nationwide will participate, including major blue-chip galleries and smaller local ventures across multiple states. The nationwide action follows a week of shutdowns in Minneapolis and St Paul after the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti during US Border Patrol and ICE operations. Several galleries publicly announced closures and statements of solidarity with immigrant communities and victims' families.
