"Art Basel has tapped Iraq-born, New York-based curator Wassan Al-Khudhairi as the artistic director for its second Qatar edition in 2027, which will take place in Doha's Msheireb district from January 28-30, with VIP days on January 26 and 27."
"Christie's led the New York spring season with a staggering $1.3 billion total across 105 lots and three evening sales, marking a 115.6 percent increase over the comparable sales last year. The powerhouse result was driven by the blockbuster S.I. Newhouse collection, which alone generated $630.8 million and produced several headline-making records."
"Sotheby's brought in roughly $737 million across 102 lots in its evening sales-a 97.9 percent increase over last May. The house kicked off marquee week with a $433.1 million contemporary auction that included its "The Now" segment, alongside a successful single-owner sale from the collection of late dealer Robert Mnuchin. Momentum continued with a $303.4 million Impressionist and modern evening sale, led by Henri Matisse's La Chaise Lorraine (circa 1919), which achieved $48.4 million."
"Phillips staged a strong rebound this season, bringing in $115.2 million across 41 lots at its modern and contemporary evening sale-up 121.5 percent from the equivalent auction last May. The white-glove result offered a welcome boost for the house after a difficult stretch that saw annual fine-art sales fall to $390.9 million in 2024, its weakest showing since 2016."
