The East Bay Municipal Utility District approved a 15-year lease to Siesta Valley Foundation to operate the six-acre Bruns Amphitheater in Orinda. The venue will be renamed the Siesta Valley Bowl and plans to preserve theatrical history while expanding live programming to include ballet, opera, punk bands, and other performances. The amphitheater sits in a redwood and eucalyptus grove with a 540-person capacity. California Shakespeare Theatre closed after 50 years and declared bankruptcy despite fundraising efforts; multiple Bay Area theater companies folded following the pandemic.
