The Great Christmas Feast, The Lost Estate - Review
"The Great Christmas Feast is the perfect way to dive headfirst into the festive season. Hosted by The Lost Estate in its West Kensington home, this immersive Dickensian experience has been delighting audiences since 2018, whisking guests straight to Victorian London on Christmas Eve, 1843. Visitors are encouraged to don their Christmas finery, with many going fully Victorian, as they step into Dickens' world to hear A Christmas Carol performed as if for the very first time."
"I was surprised by the turnout for a Tuesday afternoon matinee of The Great Christmas Feast at the start of December. The room was already buzzing when I arrived. Before reaching the dining hall, guests wander through a narrow corridor that traces Dickens' early life through weathered photographs, handwritten documents, and curious artefacts. It is a simple but clever touch that grounds the experience in the writer's humble, often challenging beginnings."
The Great Christmas Feast recreates Victorian London on Christmas Eve 1843 at The Lost Estate in West Kensington. Guests are invited to wear festive or fully Victorian attire and experience a one-man performance of A Christmas Carol accompanied by a trio of musicians. The evening pairs a three-course dinner with cocktails inspired by authentic Victorian recipes. Visitors pass through a corridor displaying weathered photographs, handwritten documents, and artefacts that trace Dickens' early life. The dining hall is dressed as a richly detailed Victorian home with gaslight-style lanterns, red-berry centrepieces, carols, and domestic period furnishings to enhance the atmosphere.
