"The images "draw on Simon's own photography, even using his camera," Ashby added. "The aim was to reveal a side of [him] which people may not have encountered before: something freer, perhaps more open. That sense of freedom feels central to the spirit of this new show. And for the design, I painted the title by hand to give it an organic, personal touch: something natural, imperfect, alive.""
"At a friend's beach house just outside Los Angeles, Simon finally finds peace: he is in love, released from the need to perform. But when an invitation arrives from the man who first ignited his teenage desire, that fragile calm is thrown into chaos. What follows is a desperate, hilarious attempt at surrender, during a night of overwhelming stimulation, the raw material for this extraordinary new show."
Gay comedian Simon Amstell posed nude for promotional posters for his stand-up show I Love It Here, which runs at the Arches London Bridge from 22 to 25 October. Photographer and designer Sam Ashby collaborated on the images, drawing on Amstell's own photography and using his camera, and painted the show title by hand for an organic look. The posters present Amstell as free and joyful in a countryside setting. The show's synopsis follows a man finding peace at a friend's beach house near Los Angeles, then having that calm upended by an invitation from a past teenage crush.
