"Watsonville resident Chelsea Celaya was all smiles. "I'm dressed as Elvira, mistress of the dark pretty iconic in an iconic place for San Jose," Celaya said. Celaya was impressed by the attractions. "It was like, 'oh my gosh,' there's going to be something at every corner, there still were some really good scares but I was like 'oh ok, it's still something a scaredy cat like me can handle'," Celaya said."

Festival Fright Nights at the Winchester Mystery House uses a 1924 masquerade theme set two years after Sarah Winchester's death. The event activates the entire property, including the mansion, outbuildings, and grounds, in an immersive, linear Halloween experience. Guests may begin their visit with a cocktail and move through the labyrinthine 160-room Victorian estate, where staircases sometimes end at ceilings and doors sometimes open to walls. Attendees reacted enthusiastically to the attractions, and tickets range from $50 to $90. Regular visitors describe the mansion as rich with story and especially magical at Halloween.
