"artist Ayelet Gal-On does not just paint; she builds. Layering oil, acrylic and plaster on canvas, her art is a process of accumulation, textures applied to capture the brush of wind and the shift of light. Gal-On's signature subjects for Taken by the Wind, Swept by the Light, her upcoming solo exhibition at Gallery 9 in Los Altos, are white dresses that appear to hang on a line, defying the stillness of the canvas."
"I love the process of playing with color, she says. It's about finding a way to translate the sensation of the wind and the warmth of light into a visual experience. The layers are both literal and metaphorical, Gal-On adds. Just as we are made up of our past experiences and hidden depths, the paintings hold their own history in the layers of material."
Ayelet Gal-On builds canvases by layering oil, acrylic and plaster to create textured, accumulated surfaces that evoke wind and shifting light. Her signature motif of white dresses appears suspended on a line, creating motion and defying canvas stillness. Color and layered material translate sensations of warmth and breeze while literal and metaphorical layers reference memory and hidden depths. The solo exhibition Taken by the Wind, Swept by the Light opens March 3 and runs through March 29 at Gallery 9 in Los Altos, with an opening reception March 6. Playful People Productions will stage a one-act version of The Play That Goes Wrong March 6–22.
